Someone steal something away from you with your conscious of, we define them as thief.
Someone threaten you to give something to them, we define them as robber.
Statute in reality world
Both thief and robber will be arrest by the police and punishment will be given based on the country law & regulation. This act has been established since ancient times.
Someone steal your 'things' without your permission mean HACKER.
The Internet Law
According to Internet Society, the first Cyber Law is established since the close of 19th century. In 1990s, The Computer Misuse Act is established, also knows as the punishment for the HACKERS.
According to the author, Crabtree, people who think politic is bored, they are not interested even though it is slowly "migrating" to the Web. I' m the example of this group. Due to assignment requirement, during my diploma law class, I had to read some articles and also news related to politics. I found reading politic news is really fun, especially with Malaysia's politic. During the study, the Internet is my 'good friend', politic is a very sensitive issues especially it is related to ethnic or religion in my country, to find an written copy of articles and news is a challenges. However, with the helps of the Internet I do learn a lots from politic mainly via blogs. I won't tell the reason why I said politic is fun. But, if you want to know please do experience by yourself. It is a good experience to learn from these people stories. However, I 'm still not interested in political at all.

Conclusion towards The Hacker
My first impression towards hacker is BAD. I did not know people who help to ensure the system being secure is also called Hacker. Like what I always think, view something with different angel, you going to realize the world is always beautiful. Don't only make judgment based on what people tell you.

Hi Serene!
ReplyDeleteI really like the way you structure your definition of hacking/stealing in the real way vs the digital world. Really gave me a clearer view. Great definition in a simple way! :)
It seems that a lot hacking activities conducted stem from the issues within the politic of a certain country. Even in our own country, governmental-related websites are constantly being invaded by some "uninvited guests". The universal truth of the Internet is diplomacy. Some people believe that no one has the right to take that "special" identity off the Internet, not even the government in the real world. In my opinion, the Internet is indeed a fabulous platform in promoting freedom of speech. People are delighted because of that. In the real world, we will be arrested if we blurt out something "inappropriate" but in the Internet, nothing matters, especially in social networking sites like Facebook. I mean, how many people do the government plan to arrest from saying "inappropriate" statements on the Internet? Hundreds? Millions? It's almost impossible.
I think the most important thing now is to implant the importance and the weight of responsibility one's words have when they spread statements on the Internet. The speed of news-traveling is beyond the description of words.
Internet is a place of democratic. Not many can really master the "truth" behind the function of the Internet (the "behind-the-scene" functions) and if there is one person who really knows everything about the chemistry that moves the Internet, we would really hope that this person or group of persons can give us some benefits that can really help us online, not invading our privacy.
Really like the way you blog, Serene. Clean and sharp :)
Thanks Su Wern for spend your time reading my post.
ReplyDeleteLet's see past story about similar issue. I think one day certain law might be exist to decrease the numbers of people posting inproper statement online. To me, law is not the only way to stop this. Like, why still so many people still did something illegal although they know they will be pubnished.
I suggest let's start from education. I am not stereotype people who not well educated. But, as we can see in our society, people who well educated behave better than those who are not. Hence, in my opinion, to change this phenomena is better from education. Also, parent play an important role in this issue.
Hello Serene.
ReplyDeleteNice post you have there! Indeed, when we see the word "hacker", it gives the bad impression. Simply as you said, viruses, worms and trojan horse enumerated as the illegal hacker. I am agree with this because the hacker might have intruded our privacy or important information via their hidden technique. Conversely, various anti-virus softwares have been created to defend these hackers.
Sarene, i like the way you explain the concept.. its simple and easy to understand.
ReplyDeleteYup agree, last time i used to think Hacker is BAD, everything have good or bad, somehow Hacking it's actually to created for test the system for security purpose, later people misuse it, people use it for personal use, they like unseen thief, steal things by just using their computer, they give us a bad side behind the screen. Some they hack in and completely change everything inside, some they didn't change anything, yet they saw everything.
Hai sarene,a good definition on hacking. Its good to make sure that we know a thing in and out before making any assumption. the knowledge that a hacker posses is actually very valuable and that makes that person an ordinary person with an extraordinary knowledge and talent. If he or she knows his worth, he or she may just succed in their life with flying colours.
ReplyDeleteHello Serene,
ReplyDeleteAgain i would like to highlight that the concept hackers is very subjective. there is good and bad of hackers existence i would say. The good part they help to contribute to the government is used as a tool to test the security of a network.
