Week 7 Tradition Publishing Versus internet Publishing

First of all, let me ask you a question.

How long you did not buy a book for your own interest purpose?

For me, since I purchased my laptop, my laptop replace my reading habit.

I prefer read with my laptop, because it is

FREE

and it doesn't occupy my room.

I would like to compare tradition publishing & weblog publishing according to my personal experience.

How do you get a book 10 year back?

I am sure the answer will be Library or Book Shop.

I was stayed in a rural area 10 years ago.

It is really hard to get a book from the place.

Every time I bought a new book, I am sure put it into the most obvious place of the book shelf.

To get a new book is not easy, sometime it's take half year.

Later,

my parent send me to a boarding school in Ipoh.

I was not allow to go out by myself first year in the school.

I only allow to go out with my parent, and they seldom visit me.

Library doesn't have what I want.

(because I like cosmetic magazine)

A year later, I allow to go out by myself once a week.

However, most of magazines that I like only publish once a week.

And,

the books that I like is too expensive.

Although, I had a hard time to get them,

but I read every words in the content.

The story of internet publishing in my life

10 years later,

finally my parent allow me to buy a laptop for my study purpose.

I still magazines, but not as addicted as last time.

I don't buy books anymore, because I thinks GOOGLE got everything I want to.

It is updated, new, and varieties.

It provides more than what I expect.

The most important point is,

IT IS ALL FREE!!!!

My conclusion is,

The number of good writer going to decrease day-by-day.

Because people don't really read, but they skim.
People don't read, can't writer a good article,

What is Attention Economy?

Get the idea of what is attention economy?

From what I interpreted, attention economy is a marketplace which use indirect way of dealing, they attract consumer attention, by relevancy strategy. Consumer tend to read something there is relevant to them and the chances of buying the products or services is higher.

For example, let's say I want to Google search "eating oatmeal", I may realize other than what I want to know, there are some others relevant result information shown. There are maybe some people comment about which brand of oatmeal is the best, advertiser might insect some interactive digital ads at the corner and so on.

I love new form of media

What is 'media convergence'?

The meaning of convergence also known as assemble or flock together. Media convergence is define as assembling different types of media. For example, when I composing this post, at the same time I listening to music.

The new form of media versus old form of media

The new form of media provides multifunction unlike old form media. Old form media usually provides single task to the users. Like newspaper mainly for reading. Although people use it in wide range like wrapping. In current life, there are various type of devices perform multifunction, like smart phone, computer and so on. For example, mobile phone not only for call and sms anymore.

In Opinion

I love new form of media so much. A Chinese quotation suggest: Union is Strength, I always prefer working in team. Like the following below:

With media convergence in my life, it's give a numbers of advantages, especially in my study. It is a hard time for me to read an article in English. Today, with media convergence, I can read an article with the help of dictionary software installed in my laptop or my smart phone.

A lots people worrying about media convergence might bring negative effect in origin work. Like people can easily download music they like from the internet. Instead of buy a CD, it is easier for them to save them into computer or pendrive everywhere they wanted to. Some more it is economy and environment friendly.

As I mention I love media convergence. People who worry about this should not be too rigid about it.

Remember when the film industry first come into our life, they are also negative feedback about it. But what happen now?

Human Being is good in adaptability. But it's just take time for them to accept it.

Ans. for the previous post...

Compare to the old Mickey Mouse animation, 2000s Mickey's anime is more interactivity. The cartoon is talk and educate to the audience. Unlike old Mickey animation is more toward entertainment. Besides, new Mickey are more attractive than old Mickey, like the improved of colour blending and 3D effect.

Intellectual Property regulation is to protect the origin work for being copy or use by others without permission. However, I agree with Free Culture should be carry out. Like the incident mentioned in Against Intellectual Monopoly, by Boldrin & Levine, if everything is restrict by Intellectual Property, productivity would be slow because people need to wait for the duration of © expired, otherwise they might be sue by the author/inventor.

I understand that IP might be increase people creativity. However, free culture allow people to further invent or modify somethings to be more prefect. Like what Disney did, they transformed Oswald the Lucky Rabbit to Mickey Mouse. But, how many of us know Oswald the Lucky Rabbit?

To me, IP should be restrict to avoid misuse of origin. Free culture should be restrict to encourage people for better creativity and productivity. As long as people who copy the idea of origin, I think it is fine if they use is in a good way. My "good way" define as not harm to to others, not to commercial purpose, not bring the origin author reputation down..
